The cover serves two purposes, washability like a pillow case, you don't really want to wash a bag full of rice, and for that the t-shirts would be fine. The other purpose is to be a thick-ish blanket layer to protect little feet from too-hot-spots in the rice bag. If you were careful not to heat the bag up too much, and shook the rice up when you get it out of the microwave, I expect it would be just fine. You could also consider quilting the t-shirt onto some toweling or fleece. That would also make it sturdier, I might worry about the t-shirt holding up to being carried around with a heavy bag of rice in it. Of course it also depends on the size of the bedwarmer, if you are making them small then they don't have to be as sturdy. Really, at the end of the day, I'm sure it would be just fine! I'm always over-analyzing and over-engineering things!

This is fabulous especially since we just got almost 10 inches of snow in the past week and more coming this Saturday too. OH JOY! But, something like this would come in very handy when trying to keep our heating costs down. Thanks so much.
