Chain Letters and Blog Awards

Ginger of Loves To Dream sent me a blog award. And this is dumb, and not her fault, she has a sweet blog, but it kind of ruined my evening. Who makes these things up? Ever since getting my first chain letter, in the mail no less, I’ve hated the you-must-do-this tone, and the sometimes subtle sometimes blatant message of if-you-don’t pass this on, you are some kind of looser, will have horrible luck for the rest of the day, or are just no fun. This one in particular pats itself on the back for being ‘cleverly-worded’ while at the same time praises the people propagating it for being uninterested in self-aggrandizing. Huh. Who are you Mr. Awesome-Invisible-Patronizing-Voice? Seriously, who writes these things? Am I being mean? Sigh. I’m just bitter about how these things always make me feel. So, yah, I’m not passing this one along. Someday maybe I’ll make, or get, an award that says, ‘Hey, I like your blog! If you feel like it pass forward the message to some blogs you like, spread the sunshine.’ With no you-musts, you-have-to, or you-will. Because I guess I’m a billy-goat or something. I should do it today to balance out the karma, but really, that’s what leaving comments on other people’s blogs is for, which I try to do on a regular basis, and I’ve already wasted enough of my evening stewing over this, and I have to go put my daughter to bed. Excuses Excuses. End of rant.

But hey, if you’re reading this, maybe, if you feel like it, if you have time, and it isn’t too much trouble, because I never want to make work for people, go and leave a nice comment on someone else’s blog, telling them how awesome they are. Every day this week if you’re feeling really motivated. If you’re feeling super motivated, take jojoebi’s Comment Pledge. I thought that one was such a sweet idea.

….and as a good commenter, I am here to say,,,erm hi!

I was chuffed to get my first award or two but then it has started to feel like the whole chain letter thing, I don’t feel so bad not passing them on but I do feel bad about not acknowledging it :O(

nice comments are much better :o)

and so, I love your blog! and I’m not just saying that LOL.

I hear ya, sister. I dislike them (and being “tagged” and all of that) as I really have different things I want to put into my blog. However, how to respond to such things? I applaud your bravery in just standing up and speaking your mind. It doesn’t work for you. That’s cool. (PS: How funny that the captcha spam-blocker word I have to type in below is “pressure ing”)

I got tagged in the same award. I took it in the spirit it was meant, just a way to say “hey, I like your blog.” I did post it and pass it on, however, I changed the wording a little. I didn’t like the “have to” tone of the instructions, so I made it more of a “if you feel like it.” I think the whole point of the exercise is to acknowlege an appreciation of what someone does, and to try to get others to come and see too. I have found a few wonderful blogs that I would have missed otherwise by following the links. I’m sorry that it ruined your evening, it was meant to be a compliment. I guess I never really thought of it as a chain letter thing, but I can definately see how it does feel that way.

Yes!!! I totally agree with everything you ‘ranted’ about… I always feel so intimidated by these tags… and ignore them… so I am glad I am not the only one in blogland who feels this way. The only good thing about ‘Loves to Dream” award post was I got your blog from it… and you have a great blog! Your bookmarked and I’ll read you daily.

i accidentally clicked on a “you have been pinked” chain letter tonite. what a waste of my time. usually i just delete anything that says fwd. viruses come in fwds.i especially hate when people copy everyone’s address and then people hit reply all and your address gets out there. get a life.

i read blogs on my downtime, at night while watching the telly. i go to my fav blogs and linked to their favorite blogs.
