Burning Yarn

I can’t really recommend it…

My husband brought home an immense pile of yarn from our school yard sale, for $5, because some of it was wool. And then the sweet man sat there with me and lit a bit from each ball on fire to see which was wool and which was acrylic. If it is wool it will smell *awful* like burnt hair and crumble into a powder. If it is acrylic it will smell like burning plastic, and burn/melt into a little blob of plastic. If it is a blend it can be really hard to tell. It will smell awful, and be a little crumbly but probably also form a little blob of plastic.

I’m sure burning the acrylic in our living room was worse for our health than just having our house be full of acrylic fibers. Oh well. We kept a paper bag full of wool yarn, and my sweet husband took the other 3/4 of it back to the school rummage sale for someone else to buy again. 🙂

Remember I am giving away two wool felt candy corn barrettes, just comment on the candy corn barrette tutorial before next Saturday.
