Spinning and Spinning and Spinning

One thing that we did a lot of in Vermont was spin. I borrowed my sister in-law’s fabulous Schacht Matchless which is a *sweet* machine.

I had fun carding colors together, and plying red/yellows with yellow/blues. Color mixing is so much fun.

I even got Rebecca into it. She’s spun before, but still needs some practice. (You can see she’s wearing her tie-dye. 🙂 )

Part of the reason she fell for it was the silver sparkles I was carding into the wool. You can see them sprinkled around (especially in the first shot). What girl can resist sparkles?

Of course, I ended up deciding to knit a scarf for my husband with this yarn, we’ll see if he can handle the sparkles. Maybe when he’s bored in meetings he can pick them out one by one…

Ohmyword! I’ve never done anything like this, but it sure looks like fun. I assume that playing with yarn colors is like playing with fabric combinations, which, is one of my favorite things. 🙂

Yes, although I guess it’s a bit more like playing with watercolors. 🙂 There not actually being any patterns, and when you card the wools together you can sort of blend the colors together into whatever you want, and as you draft and spin them out you get the colors blending together in different proportions. But yes, playing with color is pretty awesome.

Um… I am pretty much addicted to learning new crafts, and acquiring all the tools for them and then moving on to the next shiny craft… But at least I can admit that I have a problem! I am also known as the lady that is always perpetually working on some craft or other at the school playground, and never talking to anyone… If you do want to spin, all you really need is a pencil and some wool. Anything else is gravy.
