Felted Lamb

Once upon a time this was a craft blog, wasn’t it? How did it get to be a mostly kids art activities blog? Over the last year so much of my creative energy has gone into experimenting and researching for my kids weaving & dyeing class that I haven’t been making much other stuff. (Although it has all been super rewarding and satisfying.) And a lot of the time that research stuff isn’t ‘cute’.

Lamb

But this little sheep I just made is, right?

Bâââ, that little lamb is very sweet 🙂

Actually, I have a question about felt: can you wash it? My mother in law bought me felt house-shoes two Christmases ago and they are pretty dusty and dirty… I dont know though how to clean them. Any idea or advice?

Wool happily felts given heat, soap and agitation, so you need to make sure to only use two of those. If you gently wash them in the sink with cool water and soap it should be fine. After you wash them you can squeeze the water out, and then reshape them with your hands and let them air dry. Some people like to give their wool a light vinegar rinse after washing to restore the slightly acidic pH, or you can use a pH neutral soap like woolite. (Or just not worry about it!)

maryanne, I would love to teach you to needle felt. It will take you about 5 minutes! But of course you are welcome to stay and practice for the rest of the day.
